The Port of Barcelona began to make contact with the final carriers in their economic hinterland in April 1993 with a view to analyse their perceptions of the port service they receive and to discover their future expectations placed in this Port. This customer-orientated project came about as one of the core strategies for all the operators that work in the Port . In order to consolidate the Project for quality of service, the Agreed Quality Charter of the Port Community was signed in July 1993 in which all of the Project participants (both public and private operators) created a declaration of intent and promise which then served as a basis for the Quality Plan.
The proceedings referring to the Quality System are present at the heart of a plenary body called The Advisory Governing Strategic Plan and Quality Plan Body (Consejo Rector del Plan Estratégico y del Plan de Calidad). Representatives from all the organisations of the Logistic Community are present, including the public administrations and the financial sectors linked to the Port of Barcelona.
