The European Reference Centre for Intermodal Freight Transport (EURIFT) is a project supported by the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy and Transport (DG TREN) together with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.A key service of EURIFT is to provide the freight transport community with direct access to comprehensive, up to date practical information about intermodal freight transport opportunities. In the White Paper "European Transport Policy for 2010: Time to decide" the European Commission drew attention to the fact that growth in transport demand cannot be satisfied solely by extending the existing transport infrastructure. Ways need to be found to use the existing transport system much more efficiently.A more effective integration of the different transport modes - rail, road and waterway -is seen as a key success factor to achieving this. However, one obstacle is the lack of easy access for transporters to the information required. EURIFT aims to remove this obstacle by making information on intermodal freight transport more easily accessible through a well-designed internet portal. The information provided is not biased towards any particular mode. The content management team is always at your service and continuously upgrading the information base. We welcome your comments and suggestions for additional content which you can send through our contact address or by filling out the online questionnaire.
