Born in 1866, Carsten Rehder was the fourth child of a farmer on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. As a young man he had come to the city of Altona to work as a shipbroker and in 1903 established his own company. Since that time, the company has been active under his name in many areas of the shipping industry but has always maintained the same style. A private family company servicing individual clients for individual shipping needs.
Carsten Rehder have always been ship owners and shipbrokers. Today, our ship broking activities are integrated in several partnerships with different, specialized profiles.
Covering the drycargo market worldwide upto handymax size, Rehder & Arkon is present in the container market as well as in the market for non-containerized cargo. Container ships are predominant in Hamburg and Rehder & Arkon work this segment actively for their principals and exclusive owners. Special emphasis is also placed on non-containerized breakbulk, heavy lifts and project cargo. Rehder & Arkon are exclusive for a fleet of 26 vessels, that consists of containerships up to 1100 TEU and multipurpose/heavy lift tonnage up to 400 tons lifting capacity.
